The Dark Avengers' Wolverine - the supervillain known as Gorgon - gave the team its best name when he called them 'Devil Avengers.' Each member is a villain who loathes the hero they're impersonating and wants to use their likeness to do evil.
The Dark Avengers are the perfect antithesis of the iconic superhero team, the Avengers proper, with a number of the Avengers’ personal villains making up the villainous copy. But one thing always stood out as a bit askew, as the name ‘Dark Avengers’ never quite captured the insidious nature of the gang. At least not the way another, cooler nickname does–one that was thought of by the Dark Avengers’ version of Wolverine.
