Darren Gough believes that Yorkshire has a ‘once in a generation opportunity’ to rebuild and become a model for others to follow following the racism scandal that engulfed the club.
“We are trying our best never to forget what happened. Because what happened to Azeem Rafiq wasn’t right. And I think the club straight away came out and admitted that they’d handled the whole situation badly. I think that’s quite obvious to everyone. They handled the whole thing badly. An applicant that Gough said was “one of the first names on the sheet you could’ve picked”, due to his vast international and domestic coaching experience.
“In the old days in cricket, that wouldn’t have mattered. Oh you’re a big name, you can bypass that, you can have the job. But we’ve done it all above board, all by the book and we got the right person.”
