Young darts star Leighton Bennett, who beat Phil Taylor when he was 13-years-old, has been suspended by the DRA following allegations of involvement in a betting scandal
The 18-year-old, who was once dubbed 'the next Phil Taylor ', was placed under the microscope after suspicious betting patterns were detected in a handful of his matches in September 2023. In a statement, the Darts Regulation Authority announced that Bennett was suspended from all DRA events with immediate effect following an investigation.
The International Betting Integrity Association flagged the suspicious activity to the DRA, who subsequently launched an investigation. The body has now ruled that Bennett, as well as fellow player, Billy Warriner, are suspended until the conclusion of an upcoming hearing on the matter. "As a result of this decision, Leighton Bennett and Billy Warriner have been suspended from attending or competing in DRA governed events until the conclusion of the hearing or hearings and the determination of this matter. Both players have the right to appeal the suspension decision.
Lincoln-born Bennett won't be able to play on the PDC Pro Tour or compete in any events while the investigation is being carried out, and his suspension could be extended if he opts to appeal the decision.
