An 82-year-old man found guilty of 61 counts of rape against his daughter delivered a powerful victim impact statement before his sentencing next week. The woman bravely spoke directly to her abuser, stating he had robbed her of her innocence.
An 82-year-old man, convicted of 66 charges including 61 counts of raping his daughter, will be sentenced next week. The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, delivered a powerful victim impact statement this afternoon, turning to face her father as she spoke. She stated that he had robbed her of an innocent childhood and expressed the profound pain and lasting consequences of his actions.
The woman acknowledged the failures of support systems during her childhood, including family and external agencies, but emphasized her determination to rebuild her life. In a message of hope to others enduring abuse, she bravely encouraged them to find the strength to reach out, take that first step towards freedom and recovery. Sergeant Trevor Ryan revealed that the abuse, which encompassed the charges, began when the woman was just 12 years old. The jury found the man unanimously guilty last Friday, and Ms Justice Siobhan Lankford will deliver the sentence next Friday.
