We chat with ViolentNight star DavidKHarbour about playing Santa, how being a family man changes Christmas, and wielding a Viking-esque sledgehammer:
Santa's always been a hero to children everywhere , but Violent Night turns him into a bona fide action star. Directed by Tommy Wirkola, Violent Night stars David Harbour as a less-than-jolly version of Saint Nick. He's grown jaded with what he sees as a generation of cynical children, but he's inspired by a young girl , who still believes in the magic of Christmas. However, when she and her dysfunctional family are held hostage by a group of thieves led by "Mr.
David Harbour: Responsibility... That's a very good question, actually. I take my work very seriously! I love this guy. He is an iconic character. And if you really want to go into it, one of the things I was fascinated by is, "Who the hell is this red dude in a suit who comes down the chimney and gives us presents and makes a list of nice and naughty people?"
I feel like one of the ways he is able to vent his frustrations is by getting a little bit in touch with his inner savage, and a part of that is that glorious hammer. I know you've got stunt guys and this and that, but how good did you get with the hammer?
