Nottingham City Council closed the John Carroll Leisure Centre due to low usage numbers
The deadline is approaching for people to bid on a former Nottingham leisure centre that has been empty for three years. The John Carroll Leisure Centre on Denman Street Central, Radford, was first closed in June 2021 due to low usage numbers.
Operators Nottingham City Council later announced that it intended to sell the facility, with the site having gone on the market in early 2024. The deadline is now nearing for people to submit their conditional and unconditional offers. The site is being marketed with offers in excess of £1.3 million, with the property spanning 1.54 acres. Although any future usage of the site will have to be confirmed and approved at a later date, planning guidance says it could house around 70 apartments. The property listing states: "Offered with planning guidance indicating residential redevelopment would be considered acceptable and giving indicative layouts for housing and apartment schemes of 26 - 70 dwellings respectively.
The deadline for offers is 12pm on September 6. The sale of the John Carroll Leisure Centre forms part of Nottingham City Council's ongoing plans to sell off hundreds of its assets as it continues to battle multi-million-pound budget shortfalls.
