The deadline to buy a Franklin County dog license is Thursday, March 31.
The price for a license for one year is $18 for a dog that is spayed or neutered and $35 for a dog that isn't. For those who pay after April 1, the fees double to $35 and $70, respectively or at the Franklin County Auditor’s office license counter at 373 S. High St., 21st floor. The counter is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Owners can also change addresses, download forms and update information on their dogs via the online system. For the third straight year, the renewal deadline was extended two months from the normal January deadline to try to boost the number of licenses. After the deadline passes, the auditor's office will examine how effective the lengthened renewal period has been in increasing licensing.
The auditor’s office has expanded the locations where owners can purchase licenses, including the Franklin County Dog Shelter, 4340 Tamarack Blvd. in the Northland area, pet vaccination clinics, and at community events. "Licensing your dog is responsible pet care, and I encourage everyone to make sure your canine best friend is licensed,” county Auditor Michael Stinziano said in a news release.
