Police responded to a fatal shooting Wednesday afternoon on a roadway in a quiet unincorporated area on the border between Pleasant Hill and Lafayette, the Contra Costa Sheriff's Office said.

The victim, who had been shot, was pronounced dead at the scene, the sheriff's office said. His identity was not shared on Wednesday. Taylor Boulevard, between Withers Ave. and Grayson Road, is a fairly busy roadway and was closed for several hours and reopened just before 6 p.m., an alert from the Lafayette Police DepartmentNeighbors in the area told KTVU that they were rattled by the incident, which occurred in a quiet area where families live.."And we can’t have our kids running around and riding their bikes. And there’s a lot of kids in this neighborhood so that’s definitely a scary thing to consider.
