There were 40 in the hat
The government has revealed the shortlist of six locations in the UK still in the running to be the home of the Great British Railways HQ.
Preston was one of 40 locations bidding to host the new headquarters with criteria including somewhere on the national rail network which is easy to get to, a location which has a strong railway heritage, has strong public support and has the ability to offer value for money to the Department for Transport. Preston was seen to be a strong contender for the shortlist of six locations being placed strategically on the West Coast Main Line approximately halfway between London and Glasgow.
"The work we did in preparing this bid will also help us considerably in the development of our plans for the Station Quarter, and we look forward to bringing these exciting plans forward in the near future."
