Bow ties, breeches, kilts and garters will be made to measure for members of army bands and motorcyclists who participate in guards of honour
The Irish Defence Forces are set to spend more than €1 million on tailored ceremonial uniforms for army bands and motorcyclists who provide escorts of honour on special occasions.
A total of €900,000 plus VAT is expected to be spent on the ceremonial uniforms over the course of a new contract, which is for a period of 12 months with two possible year-long extensions.The Department of Defence is currently seeking tenders for the contract to supply the dresswear, which will be worn by the Defence Forces army bands, pipe bands, and its motorcycle escort of honour.
The army bands participate in a range of ceremonial occasions, including presidential inaugurations, visits abroad by the president, the presentation of credentials by ambassadors, and state funerals.
