Leah Kelly suffered a dislocated hand and broken thumb during a match Gaelic football match with Sligo earlier this year.

She spent long enough on the sidelines this year with a nasty injury, so a soccer and Gaelic football double-header is something to be savoured.

“It’s definitely good to be back,” she said. “You only really appreciate how much you rely on sport when you can’t actually do it. Luckily, it was her left hand that was bandaged up, leaving her free to write and type with her stronger right hand. Sligo native Laura Cadden came home from Rome with a silver medal as part of the relay team that also included Sophie Becker, Rhasidat Adeleke, Phil Healy and Sharlene Mawdsley.
