Defiant Donald Trump stands by killing Iran's Soleimani despite pleas for calm
Donald Trump today defied UK pleas to "de-escalate" the situation in Iran as he vehemently stood by the killing of a top General.
While the UK government has avoided condemning the US, a string of Labour Party figures demanded the White House is held to account for the way in which it carried out the strike. The UK Prime Minister had made no comment by lunchtime after spending the new year with his girlfriend on Mustique, a Caribbean holiday island for the rich and famous.Ms Rayner said: "The PM must at least get off his sun lounger to make some kind of statement on the US attack killing the senior Iranian general and the escalating dangerous situation between Iran and the USA.
"He was directly and indirectly responsible for the death of millions of people, including the recent large number of PROTESTERS killed in Iran itself. Soleimani, a 62-year-old general, was regarded as the second most powerful figure in Iran after Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Democratic critics said the Republican president had raised the risk of more violence in a dangerous region.
