The annual DWP and HMRC uprating will be applied to payments on or after the new financial year begins on April 6.

Millions of older people on the State Pension will see payments rise by 8.5 per cent next week while those on benefits can expect an uplift of 6.7 per cent. However, many people may not be aware that the Department for Work and Pensions HM Revenue and Customs will implement the annual uprating on two separate dates.

Universal Credit is slightly different as assessment periods run from month-to-month on a specific date. This means that April payments may contain a mix of the old and new rates, which means the full, new uprated amount won’t arrive until the next payment cycle in May.
