Harris County Elections Administrator Isabel Longoria will remain as the overseer of May elections, after Democrats on the commissioners court denied a proposal to fire her immediately for the botched March primary.
Her departure would be after May 7 school and municipal elections and runoffs and special elections set for May 24 and June 18.Ramsey and Precinct Four Commissioner Jack Cagle argued she should not have the chance, proposing Harris County Clerk Teneshia Hudspeth be allowed to step in. Prior to the creation of an, the county clerk and tax assessor-collector managed local elections.
Precinct One Commissioner Rodney Ellis defended the decision to create an election administrator, saying many of the problems with the election were unavoidable as the countyand local Republican officials that stymied the ballot count.
