The Irish Mirror has confirmed that Niall Colgan, who spent several years in the Department’s press office, appeared in court last month – and is to make another appearance in under a fortnight

An official in the Department of Justice has appeared in court – charged with possessing child abuse material and cannabis.

Mr Colgan is accused of possessing child abuse material at his home in Muckross Park, Perrystown, south Dublin. He is charged under Section 6 of the Child Trafficking and Pornography Act, 1998. That carries a maximum penalty at district court level of a €1,904 fine and 12 months in prison.
