A total of 250 two-man tents and sleeping bags had to be purchased for refugees whose shelters were destroyed during an operation to clear an encampment in Dublin ahead of St. Patrick's Day

The Department of Integration had to spend €22,000 on new tents for asylum seekers after their existing shelters were destroyed during a clean-up operation outside the International Protection Office the day before St. Patrick’s Day.

The asylum seekers were transported from outside the International Protection Office by bus to Crooksling, around 20km outside the city centre, where they were told to pitch their new tents anywhere on the mountain. Internal records show that department officials were tasked with acquiring 250 tents and sleeping bags at 2pm on March 13, noting that these had to be in place by the morning of March 16.

“ applicants at Crooksling are also provided with access to clean toilets and showers, health services, indoor areas where food is provided, facilities to charge phones and personal devices, access to public transport… and 24-hour onsite security.”
