Dermot Gallagher analyses Craig Pawson's refereeing of Liverpool's win over Everton whilst Stephen Warnock believes the referee could not handle the Merseyside derby
Ex-referee Dermot Gallagher agreed Ibrahima Konate was extremely lucky to not be sent off during Liverpool's 2-0 Merseyside derby win over Everton on Saturday.
Questioned first whether the call to send Ashley Young off after two first-half yellow cards, he told Sky Sports' Ref Watch: "I thought so. I think both yellow cards were correct. The first yellow card was a really reckless challenge and then everybody expected him to go once on a yellow card.
Gallagher went into depth about how referees invite pressure on themselves in matches, something former Red Stephen Warnock agreed with as he labelled Konate's reprieve as a "terrible decision." "It was such a cynical foul and how it is not a yellow card is beyond me. It is a terrible decision." "I thought he almost lost the respect of the crowd within the stadium and that's a big thing because every decision then is questioned. After that I thought he struggled in the game."
