The Candystripes will be missing four key players when they travel to Richmond Park to take on St Patrick's Athletic in the League of Ireland Premier Division on Friday.

Derry boss Ruaidhri Higgins has been hit with a triple blow with the news that key players Pat Hoban, Patrick McEleney and Mark Connolly have joined defender Ciaran Coll on the absentee list for Friday’s make-or-break game against St Pat’s.

But if City collect six points from their two concluding games against St Pat’s and Shels then they will be champions as their goal difference is markedly better than Rovers’. To do so, though, they will have to plan without top scorer Hoban, playmaker McEleney and defenders Coll and Connolly.

That provides an opening for Collie Whelan, who has barely played in the last two seasons because of cruciate injuries. “Now that Pat is missing, we will be looking at it as an opportunity for someone to put their best foot forward. Our players in the last couple of weeks have had good results away from home and we have won down there before this season and hopefully we can replicate that again.
