“There’s only one Donald Trump,” asserts the gravelly voiced narration in one TV ad. “Only one who gave us the largest tax cuts in history… stood up to China… and protected your job… Why would we ever settle for Trump imposters, when there’s only one, starting day one, who can Make America Great Again?”
Both DeSantis and Trump will keep wary eyes on Republican right-wingers on Capitol Hill. If they reject the compromise in substantial numbers, the presidential rivals will have to tread carefully for fear of alienating either supporters of the deal or its opponents., for example, remains opaque. After initially describing it as a “territorial dispute”, he came under fire from Republican foreign policy veterans who accused him of failing to understand the stakes in the conflict.
In Florida, he’s also running into difficulty. As Disney threatened to terminate investments poised to create thousands of jobs in the sunshine state, Trump accused DeSantis of being unfriendly towards business.
