Design Week Dublin opens the homes of leading interior designers

Design Week Dublin, running from September 16 to 20 in partnership with Range Rover, invites visitors inside the private homes of leading designers through a series of Design Talks. The programme explores how designers live, work and apply creative ideas in real spaces, featuring homes shaped by historic character, natural light, family life and personal philosophy.

From September 16 to 20, Design Week Dublin, presented in partnership with Range Rover, offers a rare and intimate look at the private sanctuaries of some of Ireland's most influential design minds.

The programme's Design Talks move beyond galleries, showrooms and polished project photography by opening the doors to the actual homes where leading designers live, work, think and refine their creative ideas. Visitors are invited to experience these carefully composed spaces up close, seeing how design principles that appear in professional portfolios are applied to daily life, family routines, natural light, storage, comfort and the preservation of historic architecture. The appeal of the event lies in its access.

A designer's home can reveal tastes, habits and problem solving skills that are often hidden behind finished commission work. Through these visits, attendees can observe how leading practitioners respond to spatial constraints, make old buildings feel contemporary, and create rooms that are both beautiful and practical. The focus on private interiors gives the week a personal dimension, turning architecture and interior design into something immediate and relatable.

It also highlights the relationship between a designer's surroundings and the work they produce, showing how personal environments can shape professional vision. One of the featured homes belongs to Sara, whose conservatory has become the heart of her day. Far from being merely an extension of the house, the room functions as a quiet retreat from a demanding creative schedule.

She begins mornings there with coffee and often remains in the same chair into the evening, reading, unwinding and watching the changing light. The space is filled with soft natural illumination and painted in Farrow & Ball's Light Blue, a green grey shade inspired by Sally Clarke's Kensington Church Street restaurant in London. The colour gives the room a restful, gentle atmosphere, while bamboo upholstered chairs make it suitable for work, meals and long pauses.

As summer greens fade, Sara shifts the room toward autumn with foliage from the garden, dimmable lamps and candles, creating a warm, hygge inspired setting. Geri, creative force behind Limerick based interior design consultancy Geri Designs, brings a historic rural perspective to the programme. Her studio was founded in 2018 after more than 15 years of developing her craft, shaped by a childhood surrounded by her mother's interior design career and her father's love of antiques.

Her work is centred on emotional connection, aiming to create interiors that feel comforting, personal and timeless. In her Design Talk, she discusses the principle of doing the work properly the first time and explains how that approach guides projects across Ireland, the United States, Europe and Asia. Her own home combines an 1800s cottage with original stone outbuildings, presenting a considered version of modern farmhouse design.

French tumbled limestone floors, exposed stone walls and a striking Calacatta Gold marble kitchen island give the property a European Cottage character, blending heritage materials with refined contemporary comfort. Geri's session is scheduled from 3pm to 4.30pm at The Malt House, Grand Canal Quay, with tickets priced at €35. Another highlight is Susan, an Athlone based designer who honed her skills at major international architectural practices before returning to Ireland.

She transformed a 1970s bungalow into a bright, spacious and highly functional family home, using a restrained minimalist language to create a calm refuge while balancing professional demands and motherhood. The Scandinavian influenced interior is grounded in warm, organic Irish tones and organised around the needs of daily life. The kitchen is the centrepiece of the renovation, with Susan explaining that the rest of the house was designed in relation to this shared space.

Double height proportions add drama, while two large glass skylights and an elongated central hallway bring in natural light and improve the flow through the home. Her talk takes place from 12pm to 1.30pm at Anantara The Marker Dublin, Grand Canal Quay, with tickets also priced at €35. During the session, she will discuss the growth of Ashen & Cloud and recent projects.

The wider programme also introduces Brian Woulfe, the Irish born, London based interior designer and founder of the award winning studio Designed by Woulfe, established in 2009. His recent work includes The Old Vicarage, a weekend retreat in Oxfordshire's Notswolds region that joins an early 17th century cottage with a 19th century structure. Rather than hiding the age of the buildings, Brian's approach celebrates original quirks, asymmetry and imperfections.

His path into design was unconventional, beginning with training and work as a concert pianist. He often compares interior design to musical composition, noting shared concerns with colour, rhythm, symmetry, pacing and storytelling. That background brings discipline and sensitivity to his interiors, especially when working with historic properties where every detail contributes to the atmosphere of the whole. Through the Design Week Dublin programme, these designers share not only finished spaces, but the personal philosophies that make those spaces distinctive
