On Tuesday yellow warnings for heavy rain and storms are in place for large swathes of eastern Spain and the Balearic Islands
Irish tourists visiting Spain over the coming days are being urged to take care after a very rare weather alert was issued by the country's meteorological service.
For Monday, Aemet warned of “locally strong and/or persistent showers and thunderstorms in in the Balearic Islands, Girona, Albacete and coastal and pre-coastal areas of Tarragona, Castellón, Murcia, Almería, Málaga and the Strait of Gibraltar.” Aemet added: "The peak day of this episode is expected on Tuesday 29, with the highest probability of these intense precipitations and storms expected in the Strait area, Eastern Andalusia, Murcia, east of Castilla-La Mancha and the Valencian Community. Due to the intensity and persistence of rainfall, it is likely that in these areas 120-150 mm may be locally exceeded.
