Mr Phelan denies murdering Keith Conlon and claims that he was shot accidentally in an act of self-defence.
The Diarmuid Phelan’s murder trial has heard from a witness who told the court he was"shocked and surprised" when a man fell to the ground after shots were fired.
Mr Phelan, a barrister and Professor of Law at Trinity College, Dublin, denies murdering Keith Conlon, claiming he was shot accidentally in an act of self-defence. On the 22nd of February 2022, Julien Roudaut was working with Diarmuid Phelan and others on Mr Phelan’s farm in Tallaght. After what he described as a heated exchange between Mr Phelan and another man in a wooded area on the farm, he said two men emerged from the woods.Shots were then fired and he said they were all shocked and surprised when one of the men fell to the ground.
Later, he was asked if they all felt that way because it appeared to him that Mr Phelan was firing “warning shots.”From where he was standing, Mr Roudaut said he thought “every shot was meant towards the sky.” A video clip was shown to the witness, during which you could hear men shouting things like, “This is not your property… We’re calling the guards now… You’ve shot the dog for nothing.”
