Google Ireland and Clúid Housing launch a scheme providing discounted rental homes to key workers in Dublin's Docklands.
A selection of newly built, discounted rental homes situated within Google's revitalized Bolands Mills quarter have been launched specifically for ' key workers '. Clúid, a not-for-profit housing association, was chosen by Google following a competitive bidding process to lease and manage the 46 rental apartments. The homes are located in both a renovated heritage building and a newly constructed building on Barrow Street, Dublin 4.
These homes will be leased to Clúid by Google for a period of 25 years, with the aim of letting them to local key workers in the area at below-market rents. The apartments will be advertised from tomorrow, Wednesday 19 February. The scheme comprises 35 two-bedroom apartments, 10 three-bedroom apartments, and one larger three-bedroom apartment. Rents for these apartments have been discounted compared to the current market average in Dublin 4. According to the latest Daft.ie report (Q3 2024), the Bolands Mills two-bedroom and three-bedroom apartments represent a significant discount for many residents of the area, at respective rates of 27 per cent and 36 per cent below current market averages in Dublin 4. A unique aspect of this scheme is its focus on targeting key workers within the local Docklands community. 'Key worker' is defined as an employee who provides a vital service for the local community and wider society, especially in areas such as public safety, healthcare, education, transport, law and order, and infrastructure. Applicants must be able to demonstrate a connection to the local area. The local area is defined as within a 1.5km radius of Bolands Mills. Examples of a connection to the area include being born and raised there, living in the area for a minimum of five years, immediate family living in the area for a minimum of five years, and/or working in the area. Eibhlin O’Connor, Chief Commercial Officer of Clúid Housing, said: 'As a not-for-profit housing organisation with 30 years of experience in managing and maintaining homes, we understand the importance of providing high-quality housing options for multi-occupant households, whether families or individuals who are sharing. We have benchmarked the rents against front-line worker salaries to ensure they are accessible and sustainable for those who play a vital role in our society. In addition to the discounted to market rent, BER ratings of B for the heritage building and A for the new tower means these apartments will be economical to run. Their central location also means that residents can walk or cycle to work and access many key local amenities. Bolands Mills is well connected to the city and greater Dublin area through well serviced bus and rail links.' Vanessa Hartley, Head of Google Ireland, said: 'Google has been part of the Docklands community for over 20 years now and we are proud to call this part of the city our home. We're delighted to partner with Clúid to provide these discounted rental apartments, helping key workers who are vital to our local area and society to live close to where they contribute so much. We’ve always envisioned Bolands Mills as a place that supports and enhances the neighbourhood, and this partnership is a significant step towards that goal.' The application process will open tomorrow, Wednesday, 19 February on clúid.ie and Daft.ie and will remain open for two weeks. Applications will be assessed by a third-party provider, Occu Living. These apartments will be ready for the selected residents in Spring 2025. More information on the apartments and eligibility criteria can be found on cluid.ie
