Who would you like to see take over the old Debenhams? 🛒
St Marks Shopping Centre has confirmed that there is interest in the vacant Debenhams store.Lincoln’s Debenhams store at St Marks Shopping Centre closed its doors in May 2021 after the company was bought out by online retailer Boohoo, following numerous administration and bankruptcy fears.
However, it would appear that there is genuine interest in the Lincoln site, as landlords at St Marks Shopping Centre say they remain in negotiations with people over the unit. There are no indications as to who the interested parties are, or what the Debenhams site may become in the future. We asked readers back in 2021 what they would like to see replace Debenhams at St Marks, with answers varying from an ice rink to IKEA, as well as a few other colourful suggestions, such as a Spearmint Rhino or a “post-apocalyptic paintball arena”.
A spokesperson for the shopping centre said: “We are in regular discussions with interested parties for the former Debenhams unit.“The social hub boasting a range of street food, bars and entertainment area will be situated in the former St Marks Railway Station.” It is hoped that STACK will bring large footfall to the St Marks section of the city centre when it opens later in the year.
