As the cold nights draw in, many of us will be tempted to let our four-legged friends into bed for extra warmth - but a doctor has issued a stark warning about doing so
As we wave goodbye to the balmy days of summer and welcome the crisp autumn air, many of us are ready to slip into our cosy pyjamas and invite our furry friends into our beds - a no-go during the sweltering summer nights.
Dr Deborah Lee of Dr Fox Online Pharmacy, highlighted the hidden dangers: "Pet dander is a common cause of allergy in children and adults. Exposure to pet dander can lead to allergic rhinitis, dermatitis, hives and asthma symptoms. When you inhale the animal dander particles into your lungs, your body's immune cells identify the dog or cat antigen as a foreign substance posing a threat to your health.
"This is why pet-induced asthma gives you all those unpleasant asthma symptoms - cough, wheeze and feel chest tightness and shortness of breath", reports the Mirror. In fact, a survey has revealed that nearly a quarter of dogs are infested with fleas, emphasising the need for regular pet checks and suitable flea treatments.
