The NHS says high cholesterol is when you have too much of a fatty substance called cholesterol in your blood and it can lead to heart problems or a stroke
A doctor has shared how someone can lower their cholesterol levels without being forced to take statins. The expert was answering a question from a patient who was struggling with taking the drug.
The health service suggests that maintaining a healthy diet and regular exercise can help lower cholesterol levels. In some cases, medication like statins may be necessary. Dr Roberto Lobelo, a cardiac expert, has emphasised the importance of regular exercise for maintaining heart health, stating: "The AHA recommends that all adults get at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise, or 75 minutes of vigorous exercise, per week. That can include walking, swimming, lifting weights, dancing or whatever else you enjoy and can do without injury."
In fact, a review of seven clinical trials involving around 440 participants with high cholesterol who were not on medication showed that the portfolio diet could reduce LDL cholesterol by up to 30 per cent. Dr. Glenn highlighted that this reduction is comparable to the effects of older statin drugs from the '90s.
