The grub we chow down on can play a massive role in our overall health, with certain foods known to either ramp up or slash the risk of serious conditions like heart disease, diabetes, Alzheimer's and cancer, according to a top doctor.

Dr Shah has highlighted the importance of an anti-inflammatory diet in aiding your body's defences: "Anti-inflammatory foods contain antioxidants, polyphenols, and fibre which naturally combat inflammation." She observed a significant shift in dietary considerations: "We're beginning to see a massive rise in people considering the foods they're eating, as to avoid inflammatory, ultra processed foods ."
