A man is facing backlash for refusing to change his dog's name, Ali, after his girlfriend's sister expressed discomfort over the resemblance to her own name, Ellie.
Picking out the perfect name for a pet isn't always straightforward, what with the myriad choices out there. But one man has been told to change his dog's chosen name after it caused a bit of a stir with his girlfriend's sister. After him and his partner settled on the name and even introduced their family to the new pooch – Ali – the girlfriend's sister Ellie wasn't too chuffed about it. She felt the name was way too close to her own and didn't want to 'share a name with a dog'.
On Reddit, he shared: 'My girlfriend and I decided to get a puppy, we are picking her up tomorrow. We went over a ton of names and decided on Ali. We went to her parents for Father's Day and her sister was making comments on how the dog's name is similar to hers. Her name is Ellie.' He revealed that the couple didn't originally see the resemblance: 'My girlfriend and I did not even think about this, we thought that the name was pretty and that it would fit well. This week, her sister has been giving us different names that we could rename the dog and my girlfriend is slowly giving in.' Still, he's standing his ground and doesn't plan to alter the pup's moniker as he's quite keen on it: 'I love the name and that's the one I wanted the most', reports the Mirror.
