Police have confirmed the dog will be destroyed following the attack

Police descended on Station Road in Gateacre at 10.48am un Sunday, July 23, after the 60-year-old man was attacked by the XL Bulldog. He had been walking the canine along the road when it slipped from its lead and started acting aggressively.

The XL Bulldog was captured by police, who say it will now be destroyed. The Liverpool Echo visited the scene in the aftermath of the incident, with one neighbour reporting to have witnessed the dog "chewing" on the man's arm. One witness told the ECHO that the dog, after it had slipped its lead, ran towards two children before their grandad managed to lock them in his car.
