Monday’s case bulletin already surpassed the previous day’s tally on Sunday, Jan. 9 of 28,707 new cases. DOH’s data showed that 157,526 are currently infected with COVID-19 or 5.3 percent of the total number of cases. The agency also recorded 3,725 new recoveries, bringing the total to 2,788,711 or 93 percent of the total number of cases while 145 have died, bringing the death toll to 52,293 or 1.74 percent of the total number of cases.DOH clarified that regarding alleged variants of COVID-19 which are Deltacron/Delmicron, Flurona, and IHU variants, the World Health Organization is the sole authority that can validate them.
