The figures were released by the Garda National Protective Services Bureau in advance of the Christmas and new year period, which is notable for high numbers of domestic violence incidents. The Garda also said the bureau continues to make strides in the investigation of organised crime groups engaged in overseeing organised prostitution and human trafficking in Ireland.
There have been 11 prosecutions for the new offence of stalking, which was introduced last November, six of which were related to domestic abuse.An Garda Síochána said it will continue its work with others to raise awareness of the crime of female genital mutilation . Operation Limelight, an operation focused on raising public awareness of FGM, took place in multiple airports across the country throughout the year.
