The pizza chain wants to reopen a building which has been empty since January
The pizza chain wants to launch a new store in Hesketh Bank, which is situated in West Lancashire and near to Southport where it already has two shops. Under plans submitted to West Lancashire Borough Council, Domino's hopes to take over a former tanning salon which has been empty since January.
According to Domino's, the store would open seven days a week from 11am-11pm and employ 10 full time staff members as well as 15 part time employees. It says the building has been marketed since November 2022 but so far has failed to attract sufficient use to continue its previous use.Domino’s opened its first UK store in 1985 and now has more than 1,200 across the UK and Republic of Ireland, employing more than 35,000 team members. Last year, it sold more than 106 million pizzas.
If the plans are approved, it will install a new shopfront and cladding over the building, with a separate application to follow for the various signage. There will be seven parking spaces which it argues will be sufficient for the nature of the business. The application concludes: "It has been demonstrated that the Site is an appropriate location for the proposed use which is located with the Key Village Centre of Hesketh Bank where main town centres, including hot food takeaways, are acceptable in principle. There are no local plan policies restricting the change of use from one main town centre use to another, nor are there any policies restricting the change of use to hot food takeaways in principle.
