Food presenter Donal Skehan launches a new nine-part cooking series exploring Italian cuisine, from Florence honeymoon memories to recipes shared by Italian grandmothers, featuring accessible dishes for home cooks.

Food writer and television presenter Donal Skehan is returning to screens with a brand new cooking series that takes viewers on a culinary journey through Italy.

In the programme, titled In Donal's Italian Kitchen, he travels around the country exploring the places, people, and dishes that have shaped his approach to home cooking. Across nine episodes, Skehan revisits honeymoon memories in Florence, learns time-honoured techniques from two Italian grandmothers known as Nonne, shares Italian-American diner recipes, and explores pasta in all its forms with approachable dishes designed for home cooks.

Each episode highlights a different facet of Italian cuisine while also offering a glimpse into Skehan's own kitchen and the meals he prepares at home. The first episode, titled La Dolce Vita, opens with the famous Italian belief that cooking is the truest expression of love.

The episode features a swoon-worthy Marry Me Chicken in a creamy sun-dried tomato sauce, followed by a rich squash risotto finished with crispy prosciutto, and concludes with a delicate rhubarb and orange pannacotta for dessert. Future episodes draw on Skehan's personal experiences with Italy, including a deep dive into the Italian approach to lunch, which centres on a proper sit-down meal with multiple courses shared leisurely around the table.

Speaking about the series, Skehan said it had been a dreamy project to film and that the recipes are intended to make everyday cooking easier, particularly as families settle into new routines with the back-to-school and work season. He noted that the series is packed with traditional Italian classics alongside new favourites worth breaking the rules for, ranging from simple slow-cooked weekend dinners to speedy midweek lunches and indulgent desserts.

He expressed hope that audiences will enjoy sitting down to watch the programme during autumn evenings, finding inspiration for their own Italian-inspired home cooking
