The Miracle League of Northeast Ohio needed a little miracle of its own to provide a fully accessible baseball field for its special needs athletes.
The Miracle League of Northeast Ohio has received a $25,000 donation from the Medina County Board of Developmental Disabilities to increase accessibility at its special needs baseball field at Sam Masi Park in Medina. MEDINA, Ohio --
The purpose of the “Finish the Field” project is to renovate, update and, well, finish the league’s ballpark. Until now, the outfield had a natural grass surface that could not accommodate players who use wheelchairs, walkers and other mobility devices. With the donation from the MCBDD, the league has removed the grass, paved the outfield and is soon to add a rubberized surface for safety.
The mission of the MCBDD is to provide quality programs, services and supports that assist individuals who have developmental disabilities, from birth to death, to live, learn, work and socialize in their communities. The mission of the Miracle League is to provide the opportunity for children and adults with special needs a chance to experience playing baseball in a league-based environment.
