The talented Donegal footballer took a step back from the sport last year, and during that time he got married and recovered from injuries before announcing his return

Ryan McHugh is one of Donegal ’s biggest players, with many thankful that he has returned to the county panel after taking a step back last year.

Ryan was born on 11 April 1994, making him 30 years old. He is originally from Letterkenny, but was raised in Bavin, in south-west Donegal. When did Ryan start playing? Ryan started playing football at a young age and joined his local club Cill Chartha. He was team captain when they won the 2012 Donegal Minor Football Championship.

He was brought on to the senior team ahead of the 2013 season and made his senior competitive debut in a home game against Down in the 2013 National Football League on 9 February 2013. “This year I’ve come back, I got my injuries cleared up and everything else has been going well, thankfully, this year and I’m really, really enjoying it and getting to represent Donegal again is something that I love and every single minute of it,” he told the Irish Mirror.
