James Devine (66), a father of four from Drummucklagh, Raphoe, Co Donegal suffered fatal injuries after being struck by a vehicle which left the scene at Main Street, Clonmany, Co Donegal shortly after midnight on May 12.

The victim of an alleged hit and run incident in Co Donegal in May died as a result of catastrophic head injuries, an inquest has heard.

At the opening of the inquest into his death at Dublin District Coroner’s Court on Monday, the deceased’s daughter, AnneMarie Vance, gave evidence of formally identifying her father’s body to gardaí.READ MORE: Irish woman dies after drinking cup of coffee on first day of new job in Japan She offered her condolences to several daughters of the deceased, who attended the inquest, on the death of their father “in the most tragic circumstances.”

The alleged offences also include refusing to give information, refusing to give a sample and three charges under the Road Traffic Act connected with an alleged hit-and-run incident. The court heard that full CCTV footage of the alleged incident had been taken from a number of premises in the immediate area.
