A Gaeltacht school in Donegal will become the first in Ireland to be named after Saint Carlo Acutis, the first millennial saint. Meanwhile, clocks are set to go back earlier than usual this year, and a two-year-old boy has been named locally following a fatal hit-and-run incident in Limerick.
A school in Donegal is preparing to take the name of Saint Carlo Acutis, becoming the first school in Ireland to honour the first millennial saint.
The institution, Gort a' Choirce National School, located in a Gaeltacht area, will adopt the name in recognition of the young Italian who became known as God's Influencer. Saint Carlo Acutis died of leukaemia in 2006 at the age of 15 and has since been recognised for his deep devotion to the Catholic faith and his use of technology to document Eucharistic miracles.
The decision marks a historic first for Irish education and reflects the growing recognition of the young saint's legacy among Catholic communities. In other news, earlier sunsets and darker evenings are set to return as clocks go back next month, signalling the shift from autumn into winter. The annual change will take place a day earlier than usual this year, as the 'ber' months are now underway and cooler weather, darker skies and wintry conditions are gradually taking hold.
The clock change is a familiar seasonal marker that affects daily routines, commuting hours and the amount of daylight available across the country in the coming months. Meanwhile, a two-year-old boy who died following a hit-and-run incident in County Limerick has been named locally as Peter Mulcaire. The child was struck by a jeep on Abbey Court in Rathkeale shortly after 3.50pm on Saturday afternoon. Gardaí responded to the scene, where the young pedestrian was seriously injured.
Despite efforts to save him, the toddler sadly passed away. The incident has shocked the local community in the small Limerick town, and authorities have appealed for anyone with information about the collision to come forward as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy
