Cathedral wins in walk-off style against No. 5 Poway
Playing at home has been an unrewarding experience for the Cathedral Catholic High softball team this season. At least through the first three games.
But a lot happened before Trice’s fourth RBI this season. Freshman Sophia Clark lined a single to right field and appeared to get thrown out at second base. Clark was called safe, though. A hit batter and a walk set the stage for Trice’s heroics.“We’ve been scratching at home this year,” Dons coach John Hallare said. “Finally, we got a timely hit. We have to keep telling ourselves that the leadoff batter was safe at second.
And for the Dons to turn a break into a victory on their own field. Cathedral, which defeated Poway 7-2 in 2021, was 16-9 overall last season and is the defending Western League champions.
