“This is to help with the difficulties that families are facing now in relation to increased bills and the cost of living,” Social Protection Minister Heather Humphreys told“And I was particularly keen to do something to help families with children during the budget negotiations because there are hundreds of thousands of families out there who don’t necessarily qualify for a welfare payment [but] nonetheless, they’re feeling the squeeze like anybody else.
"We cannot cushion people completely from the impact of Russia’s war on Ukraine,” Green party leader Eamon Ryan said. “However, analysis shows that the combination of universal measures and targeted measures introduced in the Budget will help protect households, in particular those at greatest risk of energy poverty.”
