The Mournemen host the Royals in what is a repeat of the 2023 Tailteann Cup final which Meath won before Down claimed the title last season
If the early season results are anything to go by, Down’s clash with Meath could be the pick of the round three fixtures.
The last time these side met, Meath lifted the Tailteann Cup following a 2-13 to 0-14 win in Croke Park while the Mournemen went one better last season, defeating Laois in the decider. The goalkeeper isn’t counted as an outfield player and, as such, could have a massive influence on the game if they join an attack to create a 12 vs 11 overlap.
Similarly, to show dissent after a referee’s decision to award a free will result in the free being advanced 50 metres. Dissent from the sideline which is deemed worthy of a yellow or red card will now be punished with a free from the 13-metre line. A captain or a designated player may seek clarification from referees.
