Dramatic before and after satellite images reveal the full extent of the devastating flooding that followed the destruction of Ukraine’s Nova Kakovka dam
Kherson region burst its banks and flooded towns and villages miles downstream after the dam in Russian-held territory collapsed on Tuesday.
He said: “The water level rises much faster than an extreme flood event and the warning time is extremely short. Such dam break failure can often lead to many deaths downstream.” Other videos showed an entire house floating downriver, elderly people being placed into ambulances, animals trapped in floodwater, and washing machines floating in a house that was flooded almost to the ground floor ceiling.
