Giovanni Esposito, 68, is accused of driving onto a sidewalk and striking Michael Cranmer as he was walking in Paulsboro.

Esposito, who served prison time for a fatal shooting in the 1980s, had previously vowed to kill Cranmer and had hit him with his vehicle once before, prosecutors allege. He drove off again, parked at a nearby business, got out to inspect damage to the passenger side of his vehicle and lit a cigarette, Salvati said.
A witness who said he knew both men said both had described a feud, though the nature of the dispute was not disclosed in court.Assistant Deputy Public Defender Rebecca Donnarumma described Esposito as a lifelong local resident who has led a law-abiding life since his release from prison for a 1988 manslaughter conviction.
Esposito suffers from an alcohol use disorder, for which he has received treatment, Donnarumma said, and she asked for his release in order to continue addressing that issue.
