The crash occurred in Middlesex County.
A Philadelphia woman died early Sunday when she was ejected from her vehicle on the New Jersey Turnpike after it collided with the rear of another vehicle, the New Jersey State Police said.
The 3:30 a.m. crash occurred on the southbound, inner lanes of the highway at mile marker 71.1, in Cranbury, Middlesex County. A State Police spokesman said the preliminary investigation shows the Philadelphia woman, 29, was driving a Mercedes when it struck the rear of a BMW as both vehicles were headed south. The impact sent both vehicles into guardrails on the highway, and the Mercedes flipped over.
A passenger in the Mercedes suffered serious injuries, and the BMW driver suffered minor injuries, the State Police said. The agency did not identify the Philadelphia woman Sunday evening as officers worked to notify her family.
