Lee Tierney panicked as he tried to get away from officers
A support worker who got behind the wheel while drunk drove over a police officer’s foot during a “low speed pursuit”.
Preston Crown Court heard that Tierney, 45, was almost three times over the limit when and driving on one completely bald tyre when police tried to stop him on May 27. His driving was described as dangerous and erratic as a judge warned there could have been far more serious consequences.Prosecuting, Paul Brookwell said that Tierney’s Mazda was seen being driven erratically but initially escaped the attention of officers.
Defending, Isabel Thomas said the incident was entirely out of character and that Tierney is “deeply ashamed” to be appearing before the court. She said it occurred at a time when he would deal with problems by drinking but that he was now taking a more healthy approach of asking directly for help when it is needed.
“That’s obvious in the way you were driving.” The judge warned that the consequences of Tierney’s actions could have been far more serious. He said: Dangerous driving, especially when you are in drink, means you are a danger to everyone.
