Get the scrapers ready, drivers, a new Pennsylvania law will mean the clock is ticking when ice and snow fall in the Keystone State.
Gov. Tom Wolf on Monday signed Act 90, which included state Sen. Lisa Boscola’s long-sought Christine’s Law. The law means drivers will have to clear snow and ice from their vehicles within 24 hours after a storm ends., a 51-year-old Palmer Township woman who was killed Christmas Day 2005 when a 10-inch chunk of ice dislodged from a trash truck and crashed into the vehicle she was driving.
“The goal of Christine’s Law is to increase public awareness and make people more vigilant about clearing snow and ice from their vehicles so that the tragedy that befallen to the Lamberts don’t happen to other families,” Boscola said in a released statement.For police in Pennsylvania, it means they can stop snow-covered vehicles.
Previously, drivers could only be cited if snow or ice dislodged from a moving vehicle and struck a person or vehicle, causing death or serious bodily injury.
