Drug users will be given health warnings instead of being prosecuted under new government plans.
The Gardaí and the HSE are going to set up a new IT system so that people caught in possession of small amounts of drugs can be referred to a health practitioner. The HSE is then going to recruit specially trained staff to give health warnings and advice to users about how to deal with their drug use.
