John Eichner sped through red lights and junctions and went the wrong way around a roundabout
A Blackpool man high on cocaine drove through red lights and hit 70mph in a 30 zone in a bid to avoid being sent back to prison.
Preston Crown Court heard that Eichner, 33, was driving in Blackpool on June 2021 and drew the attention of officers due to his dangerous and speedy drivers. When an officer signalled for him to stop, he paused at a traffic light before setting off on the dangerous getaway.That started in the area of Dinmore Avenue and involved him passing through the junctions on the wrong side of the road. He eventually stopped when he went down a narrow road and smashed into three parked cars.
More than a year would pass before he was eventually charged in relation to the incident, something which defence counsel Julie Taylor said was a "cynical" decision to ensure any sentence wasn't served during his licence period. The delay was sufficient that he could not be charged with drug driving or driving without insurance as the statue of limitations had passed.
