Zane said she didn’t even know if there was a flight for her and wouldn’t find out until she got to the Ryanair Customer Service desk after being in the queue for over 12 hours.
A passenger spent her 39th birthday in a queue for more than 12 hours trying to get a new flight to her family in Latvia as the chaos of cancelled flights continued at Dublin Airport yesterday.
She said her flight to Riga was due to take off Tuesday morning at 6.45am and she had been in the airport since around 4am. It was only when she was sitting at the gate that she was informed the flight was cancelled. “When we were told the flight was cancelled we were all at the gate. Then we kept getting lost as we didn’t know where to go. Some people were crying. We had to go back through Arrivals to get back here to the queue in Departures so people were saying ‘Welcome to Ireland,’ and people were crying. We never even left the airport! It was ridiculous.”
“We were at the airport since 5.30am and our flight was supposed to be at 7.10am to Cagliari in Italy,” a disappointed Laura Mardar from Dublin, who was travelling to Italy with her partner Italian man Fabio Urrur to spend a week with his family. Speaking from the airline’s operations centre at Dublin Airport, Mr O’Leary went on: “We’ve had a very difficult day yesterday due to the UK Nats ATC failure.
