'The CEO of the daa, Kenny Jacobs, accused Fingal County Council of being unreasonable and slammed their six-week deadline.'
The new €320 million northern runway at Dublin Airport could be shut down for breaches of planning laws.
There are only suppose to be 65 night-time flights between 11pm and 7am over a 92-day modelling period under the planning permission that was granted by An Board Pleanala. But a Fingal County Council investigation has established that far more planes flew in and out at night and that the planning conditions in relation to night-time flying were ignored. The Council has the power to shut the northern runway but would prefer to resolve the dispute and the issue diplomatically.
The daa said it is disappointed by Fingal County Council's decision and the notice of just six weeks for Dublin Airport to comply with a notice to reduce the number of night-time flights to a maximum of 65 between 11pm and 7am.
