Sherie Tynan and Darral Poole from North Dublin had planned to tie the knot in Portugal in October 2023 when they were taken advantage of by an online scam artist

A Dublin couple almost had their dream destination wedding in Portugal ruined when they learned the day they were due to fly that the thousands of euros they spent on a luxury villa was a scam.

So in the run up to their big day, Sherie and Darral began a frantic search to find somewhere else to stay for their wedding. It was at that point that they joined a Facebook group where homeowners and estate agents could offer villas and apartments to let. Sherie and Darral transferred the money and continued to communicate with the supposed homeowners up until the day they were due to fly to Portugal, when they realised something was definitely wrong.

While Sherie wanted to stay in bed sobbing, she knew that their nearly 60 guests would soon be arriving in Portugal and she had to find a solution. After a friend stepped in to help, Sherie and Darral went on to have an “amazing” day, despite their wedding being overshadowed by the awful incident.
